Team Communication
At Velocity, one of our primary means of communication with parents and players is email. It's usually quick, mostly reliable, and I believe we all have one. That said, there are situations where email isn't easy to compose or the topic warrants group collaboration or central storage for easy access. Given those reasons, we're trying a couple of new communication vehicles this season as part of our continuous effort to further engage and communicate with all involved in Velocity (e.g. parents, players, and Club personnel):
|
Every Club season brings on discussion topics covered in previous years as well as new discussion topics relevant to all age groups. For example, the 6-2 vs. the 5-1 offense, advantages and disadvantages of a perimeter defense, tips on executing passing, setting, hitting, and blocking, new USAV rules, etc... Many of the topics come up at practices and in order to not take up too much practice time the discussion is taken offline where only a select few get to participate although every player on the Team and potentially the Club could benefit from just listening. Discussions can also take the form of email but again only a select few get on the distribution.
The primary purpose of the Team Blog is to have a central repository of discussion topics and supplemental learning material for the players and parents. We'll cover volleyball-related topics such as offensive and defensive schemes, terminology, and fitness in addition to anything else that comes up which warrants a group discussion and learning opportunity.

Twitter is a free service that lets you
keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent
updates.
We launched a Twitter site which enables interested parties to stay up to date with us during tournaments. Our goal with Twitter is to communicate match results with the coaching staff's commentary as a tournament progresses. We feel Twitter will be an accurate way to supply updates to interested parties who can't physically be at the tournament venue.
Please go to Twitter.com to sign-up for a free account if you don't already have one. Once you've signed up or logged in, search for our team's username which is Velocity14N2009 then click on the Follow option once you find us. Choosing Follow enables you to view our messages which are referred to as Tweets.
